Louis has said so often that engagement is what brings him joy when he's performing and when he's around his fans. Seeing his fans engage with him and with each other. I think fan projects as a general concept are fine, but they should be tailored more towards the aspect of community and found family over things like trying to do some backhanded grand gesture for Louis.
For example:
Trading friendship bracelets and Louis-based crafts amongst the crowd like what happens at Harry and Taylor Swift (and several KPOP group) shows.
Light projects during songs.
Group sign projects with positive but generic comments or just random fandom stuff. Hard to co-ordinate and organise, but they can be super fun. Again mentioning KPOP, but the Stray Kids fandom does these really well. Signs are usually things like meme quotes or 'honk if you love Stray Kids' (which is hilarious because people would just randomly honk like geese throughout the whole show. Harmless, hilarious, fun.)
Co-ordinated outfits. These happened a lot during the 1D shows. Different sections could dress up as a different 'era' Louis, ect.
So again, just things that are less focused on Louis and treating Louis like a little child you have to coddle and more focused on Louis as the person that's brought everyone in that room together. Fun things that Louis can notice and see and engage with. Things he's said make him happier than the awkward moments when fans he doesn't even know are telling him things like how they're in love with him.
mostly just going to leave this as is because these are def good points / things to mention!
there are TONS of ways to respectfully and creatively engage with an artist as well as other fans at shows and other events without making things uncomfortable, self serving, invasive.... i think it just takes some brainstorming, careful planning (if you want to make it a proper Thing), and some insight on the audience and artist you're engaging with so it can be fun while still remaining both respectful and true to the other people involved!
we had all sorts of fun stuff going on during 1D shows and as a kpop fan myself people doing trades for things like photo cards and fan merch before shows is so nice to see! i’ve been seeing some people do bracelet trades at louis shows recently as well and it really makes me want to get into making beaded keychains again and handing those at shows 🩷
